Google Reader hands down is one of the best RSS news reader around. Adding and managing subscriptions from web sites is easy and the interface makes organizing feeds into different folders (labels) a simple task. But one feature, that may fool you in to thinking is missing, is the capability to sort and re-order your subscriptions in the sidebar. I have to admit, I was looking around everywhere in the Manage subscriptions settings and couldn't find a way to sort my subscriptions in the s

Visitors ask...What is the orange and white icon doing in the upper right corner of this blog's URL? In the upper pane of my internet browser, there is a URL (or "uniform resource locator") designation box telling the browser the address to this blog. It starts with http//: (which is shorthand for "hypertext transfer protocol"). It then gives the Blogger address: tlm-md.blogspot.com. To the right of the address in the URL pane is an orange and white icon. If you click on that icon, you can
Courtesy of Slashdot, possibly the geekiest RSS subscriptions on the planet. Should I be worried that the few I didn’t have already, I added to my RSS reader?
“email subscription service” After 4 days of having my email subscription service down and not working my thoughts are starting to lean towards taking the next step and and changing providers. To be honest I am not sure why Feedburner has such a poor support center, but they do! I have tried all week to get a hold of someone with no luck once so ever. 40% of my subscribers to my feed only are email subscribers, so with out being able to deliver content I am not longer providing any source of
I know that today I was going to talk about something else other then an issue I have been having over the past 3 days with my email subscriptions not going out at the set time, but today I have to post on this because it is pissing me off to no bitter end. I have however emailed Feed Burner three times on this issue with no response back as of yet, so what is a man to do when this happens? Well, I did the next best thing I called Google! That’s right, the big “G” heard from little old me toda
If there’s anyone out there who subscribed to the Stay Awake RSS feed before this post, could I encourage you to come and resubscribe to the new feed, now provided by Feedburner. It promises a better looking feed, and will enable me to track how many people are reading, which will help me to decide how much time to spend writing blog posts! Thanks very much.

The RSS/Feed/Email debate has been raging for a while, in pockets of enthusiasm and then pockets of nothingness. This is pretty much how RSS works and feels to me and many others. Have you ever tried to explain to anyone who is not tech-savvy what RSS means? Do you even know what it stands for (no Googling)? I have tried and it’s certainly not easy. I read an extremely interesting post on how to boost your RSS readers. [From here on in this post I'm going to refer to RSS and e-mail readers a

photo credit: photopia / HiMY SYeD I’m an information junkie. I also share a lot of what I find with coworkers, friends, etc. So when people ask me where I dig this stuff up I often respond “just found while surfing” or “in my RSS feed”. I usually only pass on what I think is good. I call this Human Filtering. Back in May, Chris Garrett launched this thread on Authority Blogger Forum. The concept was to develop a Blogging Pack with the goal to increase the quality readership of the bl
This is a tool I think Google and/or FeedBurner would be smart to pick up as soon as possible. FeedCompare.com allows you to compare any two feed subscriptions to see how you stack up against the competition. Above you can see the results of the Mitchelaneous RSS subscription feed numbers in comparison with my podcast, the Web Hosting Show. You can also drag over a specific time frame to zoom in on the results. Now lets see what happens when you compare the Web Hosting Show with The WHIR
This post may be a little off-topic, since it’s not about Japan. But it is relevant if you’re a regular reader, or if you’d like to be but keep forgetting to check back. You’ll notice I have a link in the sidebar that says something like “subscribe using RSS”. I’d encourage you to use it, but I find that many people still don’t know what RSS is, even though practically every blog and news site on the web offers a subscription to their content through it. So I found this video on YouTube that g

In all honesty I never really understood RSS feeds. I always just saw them as a lame way to read a webpage without going to it. I mean why would I want to read some poorly formatted text version of a site when I can just goto the site itself and read it the way it was meant to be read… Well I still kind of feel this way, but even if I don’t really use RSS feeds that doesn’t mean that the people reading my sites don’t use them. And as I’ve found out, a lot of my readers do use my RSS feed to get

mrcorey feedreader fodder I have added the Subscribe2 plugin to my site as a measure to ensure that anyone who really wants to try and keep up with my fast paced writing will be able to do so. After reading RT Cunningham’s convincing article on Untwisted Vortex, I decided that this was a good idea. See the link to the right? Plop your email address in there and you should get an email notification every time I post something new. If I published more often, I’d provide a digest. But, since i
