AJAX Calendars

A good calendar program seems to be a perfect fit for an AJAX application. Now we just need a perfect Calendaring system to show off AJAX. The 2 leaders so far appear to be 30 Boxes and spongecell. SpongeCell is built on the Ruby on Rails platform.

A plus for 30 Boxes is the full page entry screen. I have tried it on several computers at different resolutions and it is a well designed screen. Reading through other reviews a popular area in the system is the social options. Such as being able to setup buddies and share your calendar with [...]

Social Media Rich Ads by Spongecell

Typically, I am hard to impress. As a creative director, I always strive to make sure my client’s marketing image is top notch and that takes time and multiple revisions. It is the same situation with ad delivery platforms. Just how many flash embedded ad networks does it take before I start to roll my eyes? Maybe three, four if it is Christmas. A few weeks ago, I attended the SFBeta event in San Francisco and met Nik Bonaddio, the Creative Director of Spongecell. Guess what? He has another ri

SummerMash NYC

Last Thursday, some of our East Coast office made an appearance at Mashable’s SummerMash at Touch in NYC, where there was lots of socializing about Web 2.0 over food, drinks and live music. The event was the grand finale of Mashable’s cross country Summer Tour, and a couple hundred people came out to celebrate. We had a great time meeting folks and talking up our new Rich Media. If anyone from SummerMash didn’t get a chance to run into us and wants to grab a drink and recreate SummerMash, get

Spongecell’s CEO Ben Kartzman was recently inducted into The Internet Oldtimers Foundation, being recognized as a leader in the digital advertising community. The foundation highlighted Ben’s experience in the digital and online advertising worlds alike, writing: “Ben Kartzman has emerged as one of the leading minds in the creation and management of highly usable software products. He is a qualified expert in interactive advertising and possesses particular strengths in global team building

Avanoo and Spongecell try to make banner ads that we won’t hate

Updated Let’s face it: Display ads are lame. Eye-tracking analysis suggests that most people ignore them. Consumers find them significantly less trustworthy than search ads, and it even seems doubtful that clicks are a good measure of their success. Despite this, display advertising was responsible for around $4.41 billion of the approximately $21.1 billion spent on online advertising last year. Improved targeting methods might make display ads more useful for brands and publishers, but there

Spongecell at SFBeta

First things first, let me introduce myself. I’m Nik, the creative director here at Spongecell. I joined up with the team about seven months ago after a two year stint at Yahoo!. Before that and like most other members of the team here at Spongecell, I attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where I graduated with a Bachelors in Information Systems/Communication Design, and a Masters in Information Systems Management. Whew! Glad that is out of the way. Last night, I had the distinc

The Velocity of Success

Things seem to be moving very quickly right now, which is as exciting as exciting can be. Our CEO is in New York, talking to some big names and presumably hot on the trail of closing with ad buyers to get our technology out there in the live world. Our CSO is in Los Angeles talking to agencies and other media types for the same reason, except from a slightly different angle since his pitch is no doubt agency-centric and not brand-centric. That’s a whole lot of wheeling and dealing! Now add to

On personality

So recently in lieu of the new product rollout at work, I’ve been doing a lot of ad-hoc PR for the company. Nothing too big, just attending and sometimes speaking at various Web 2.0 and new tech meetups, harassing various influential bloggers, and generally getting myself (and by extension, the company) out there in the social conscience through sheer force of will. This sort of outward socialism isn’t an uncomfortable thing for me; I’m firmly extroverted so there I don’t have any hang ups on i

Weekend reading - July 11

If you are wondering where our iPhone post is, we didn’t write one – there are plenty of posts to read on the subject already. We DID take a snap of the line of the Apple store at a shopping mall here in Portland on Friday though: Now, on to the weekly reading list… On the endangered list: Postcards. A new survey from M:Metrics says that photo messaging from mobile phones has grown 60 percent in the U.S. and 16 percent in Europe over the past year. As the mercury climbs in the summer month

Spongecell brings viral communications to events

For a few months, I’ve been looking into an interesting Left Coast startup called Spongecell which helps companies promote events virally. (The only problem with this company’s presentation is that it’s easy to call it “SpongeBob” instead, especially you have two small children (grin), but apparently the founders find that amusing.) Well, now I’ve meddled with the Spongecell tools for a while. I’ve also brought them to the attention of my husband, a Web designer who manages a site for a folk

Spongecell, an event planning and marketing tool is off with wiping its hands in the advertising market with its newly launched product Spongecell Rich Media Ads.
